Sign in or create your account
- Open KFT and enter your email address and password.
- If you already have an account, choose Sign In. If not, choose Create Account and complete your personal details.
- After authentication, choose whether to join an existing family or create a new family.
Join an existing family
- Choose Join an Existing Family.
- Search for the family by its full name, or open the personal invitation sent by text, email, or link.
- Confirm that you selected the intended family and review who invited you.
- Send the family access request. The family owner receives a notification and reviews it.
- When approved, reopen or refresh KFT. That family’s authorized information becomes available.
If similarly named families appear, select the exact family you recognize. A subfamily or household may be a different private family space.
Create a new family
- Choose Create a New Family.
- Enter a distinctive family name and create your own starting profile.
- Add initial relatives and relationships now, or continue and add them later.
- Review the Family Membership information shown by Apple.
- Invite relatives from Members after the family is ready.
The creator becomes the family owner and can review access requests, invite members, and manage the family’s coverage.
Manage your families
Active families
On Home, a single tap includes or excludes a family from your current KFT view. This changes what you see; it does not remove your membership.
Primary family
Double-tap a family to make it primary. Other active families can remain included.
Access requests
Family owners can open Family Access Requests, review the requester, and approve or decline access.
Create another family
Use Manage Families to create another private family without leaving your existing families.
Use Circles to organize your people
Circles are flexible groups inside your family. Make an Inner Circle, Cousins, Care Team, Trip Group, or any group that fits how your family connects.
- From Home, choose Show Circles.
- Choose New Circle, give it a natural name, and place it on the Circles board.
- Sort People by Popular, Everyone, relationship degree, last name, or first name.
- Drag a person into a circle. Drag them again from People to include them in additional circles.
- Drag a person out to remove only that circle membership. Move or resize a circle without losing its people.

Manage a Circle
- Rename it from its menu
- Delete it without deleting members
- Use Undo after an accidental board change
- Overlap circles to add someone to each overlapping group
Members and the family tree
Browse members
Search or sort relatives, filter by Circle, and view permitted contact and relationship details.
Add a relative
Choose Add or Import, then Add Family Member. Enter profile details and connect the new person through relationships.
Invite a member
Open the member’s profile and use the invitation action. Choose the intended family before sending.
Import or repair
Import GEDCOM, review unmatched people, edit relationships, or merge genuine duplicates while preserving information.
Messages
Start a conversation
Choose New Message, then select Everybody, a Circle, or individual recipients. Eligible relatives without KFT may be contacted through Text/iMessage.
Share more than text
Attach a photo or authorized KFT document. Reply, react with an emoji, and remove messages from your view when appropriate.
Photos
Import and share
Add photos from Apple Photos, Google Photos, Camera, Files, or Scanner. Share with Everybody, a Circle, or selected people.
Organize and find
Filter by uploader, year, tagged person, or family. Open a photo to edit permitted details or sharing.
Export
Select photos to share, save to Apple Photos, or save to Files.
Respect access
Only people included by the photo’s family and sharing rules can access it.
Gatherings
Create an event in guided steps: Details, When & Where, Invitees, RSVP, What to Bring, More, and Review.
Invitations
Invite Everybody, a Circle, or selected relatives. Add a banner from family photos or import a new image.
Planning
Save a draft, add location and timing, request RSVPs, and create claimable items to bring.
For guests
Respond, claim or unclaim an item, open the location in Maps, or add the event to Apple Calendar.
For organizers
Edit details or cancel the gathering when plans change.
Upcoming events and wish lists
Upcoming
See birthdays, anniversaries, and Christmas wish lists. Select who appears in the Christmas section.
Your wish list
The wish-list owner can add, edit, and delete wishes for occasions such as a birthday or Christmas.
Giving a gift
Other members cannot change the owner’s wishes, but can privately claim an item to show that the gift is taken.
Gift ideas
Gift Ideas opens an external Amazon search using general occasion details without names or internal identifiers.
Documents
Add and organize
Create folders and import documents from Files, photos, Camera, or Scanner.
Control visibility
Share with Everybody, selected people, or Emergency Only when appropriate.
Maintain records
Edit details, replace a file, or delete it when you have permission.
Share safely
Send an authorized document in a KFT message or revoke a share token when necessary.
Prayer
Create a prayer request for Everybody, a Circle, or selected people. React, mark a prayer answered, delete it, or remove it from your own view. Supported attachments may include photos, video, or transcribed audio.
Family recipes
Preserve recipes
Add ingredients, directions, notes, photos, and the story behind the dish.
Import and discover
Use supported import tools or recipe search, then review the information before saving it.
FaceTime
Choose Everybody, a Circle, or individuals. KFT uses available phone numbers or email addresses and helps you choose when multiple contacts exist. FaceTime supports up to 32 participants.
Emergency tools
Open Emergency for family notification and communication resources, including tools intended for situations when ordinary phone service may be unavailable. Radio information may include verified public repeaters and family-added information. Follow local authorities and licensed-radio requirements.
Settings, privacy, blocking, and export
Notifications
Review invitations, family approvals, and reminders. iPhone notification and sound permissions also affect alerts.
Privacy and blocking
Family permissions determine access. Blocking prevents members from seeing one another’s shared activity or contacting each other through KFT.
Backup & Export
Create an export, review file issues, and open Apple’s share options when it is ready.
Delete account credentials
Deleting your login removes private credentials. Shared family-tree profiles and contributions may remain to preserve family records.
Troubleshooting
I cannot see the family I expected.
Check Manage Families and confirm the correct family is active. If you requested access, the owner must approve it first.
I did not receive a notification or sound.
In iPhone Settings, find KFT under Notifications and allow notifications and sounds. Confirm the request went to the intended family.
A photo or document thumbnail is blank.
Confirm the original is available, KFT has Photos or Files permission, and the Jetson connection is available. Reopen the item before importing again.
I cannot add to someone else’s wish list.
Only the wish-list owner changes wishes. Other members can claim an existing wish to show that the gift is taken.
I cannot find an import option.
Options depend on the screen. Photos can use Apple Photos, Google Photos, Camera, Files, and Scanner. Documents use Files, Camera, and Scanner. Family trees use GEDCOM import from Members.
I still need help.
Include what you tried, what happened, the affected family or feature, and your iPhone and iOS version. Never send your password.
